Had a tough time coming down through Fossil Canyon to this mouth/entrance on the other side - the north end of Fossil Canyon.

What kinda tough time you say? Well - the solo backpacking slot canyon all mixed together kinda woes. Solo woes - as in "Whoa am I really doing this solo? Wouldn't I rather be watching the game with the boys?" and "Didn't I learn anything from that 127 hour movie?"  Backback woes - like "whoa this 40 lbs of extra top weight is going to *be the end of me* if I'm not more careful!", etc. And then the dry waterfall two story drop... erghh... woes.  Actually thought about turning back at the waterfall. It was an immense gap in the mountains funneled to a choke point and there was nowhere to go except down this 20-30 ft overhang drop. Someone had been kind enough to leave a bleached-white static rope, but I didn't even consider it - not even an option! as I wasn't prepared for any rappelling/rope work. Decided to go for "more conservative" detour, which resulted in aforementioned "owie" and cost me an hour and about 1000ft of gain/loss.

So you put all of these minor concerns together and it gets to be a challenge cutting through a canyon. But I made it and at about this time I'm feeling pretty proud, confidence returning! Time to investigate the slot canyons. Man am I glad I'm not watching the game! Woohoo!

Life is Good - again.
